Evangel Royal Rangers

February 28, 2009

Today was the first meeting of the year for Evangel Royal Rangers. Numbers were down as most of the youth went by truck and bus in torrential rain to North Efate Youth Combined last night, returning home around 2.30am.

The meeting feature today was learning about how unique each person is with a fingerprint different to everyone else in the world. Kiki lead the devotion, talking about strength in numbers, and how we can support each other.

The favourite game today was a wheelbarrow obstacle course where the pusher was blindfolded and the boy in the wheelbarrow gave directions. These were confused by the loud misleading directions from the observers. A really fun time for everyone.

Andre has taken over from Russell and is now Senior Commander of this group.  This frees Russell  up so that he can  concentrate on the newer outposts.

Picnic Day

February 21, 2009

Today was the Joy Bible Institute picnic day. Staff and students travelled by truck to Honeymoon Beach which is situated on Pango Point some 10km out of Vila. It was a perfect day, shady trees and a cool breeze made the day very comfortable. The girls were up at 2am to cook rice, make  manioc and banana lap lap. The boys barbequed chicken wings and sausages. Other staff brought cakes, and salad.  After lunch the boys slept on the beach, then everyone swam in the beautiful waters of the sheltered bay. There was a deep swimming hole in the sea which was popular. The children played in the shallows. Lori produced a cake for Robyn’s birthday, and the 1st year students shared their testimonies.  A day of relaxing and fellowship.

Royal Ranger training

February 14, 2009

Royal Rangers is about to recommence for 2009.  Last Friday  11 leaders met in our lounge to discuss the activities for the coming year. Yesterday 5   more young men met to do Basic Leadership Training, and as a result a new group of Royal Rangers will be starting at Mele Village, about 10 km out of Vila.  Each training session incorporates the different parts of a Royal Ranger meeting in a practical way. Russell gave a devotion using  the Wordless book, and for an activity the young men made Gospel bands using leather thonging and coloured beads.

Good News Club

February 10, 2009

Today was the first Good News Club for 2009. 39 Children came a long from Ekoftau village. The children range from 5 years to around 12 years. The theme today was “Jesus Loves Me”. The session was followed by a very loud and rowdy game of slipper soccer. This game is always a hit with the children and produces lots of laughs for the adults and children. We had brought back with us from Australia some small musical instruments. The Ni-Vanuatu have good rhythm naturally, so our small orchestra was a hit.
